Technology Upgrade 2008

Overview

What is happening?

Standard Bank has upgraded the Business Online software environment in line with the latest global technology. As the Business Online application runs on Java software, the system has now installed the latest available version.

Benefits

Enhanced security

  • The new version is in line with cutting edge IT security standards.
  • The new security features that are being introduced cannot be implemented on the existing versions.

Application performance

  • Speed and response times are significantly improved, enabling faster downloads. This applies especially to lower bandwidths, due to the refinement and streamlining of the Electronic Software Distribution mechanism.
  • The application is smaller and uses less hard drive space.
  • Navigation between different Business Online products is easier.

What does the upgrade involve?

The upgrade involves a short download and installation process which will update your current software to the latest version of Java, JRE version 1.6.2 (or later version).

Upgrade process

You can upgrade your software at any time by following the step by step process. The latest
software is available to download by clicking on the link from the Software Downloads menu.

Standard Bank will be contacting users that have an old version of Java via email, message alerts,
a telephone call from our Business Online call centre or a system message prompting you to upgrade.

Users with JVM 1.1 (Domestic Banking)

If you have been using Business Online for a long time you may be accessing an old version of
our application. We encourage you to urgently upgrade your systems by installing the latest version
of Java. Support for this version of Business Online will be discontinued in October 2008 .

Should you have any difficulty upgrading, please contact your Business Online representative or the call centre to arrange technical assistance.

Users with JRE 1.4

You can configure your Java software to automatically detect the latest version of Java.
We recommend that you do this as you will then receive updates as soon as they are available. Updates are made to the software to introduce new features, fix bugs and enhance security.

200MB Hard disk free space

Service Pack one or higher

Super VGA monitor – 800x600 resolution with more than 256 colors

A4 plain paper printer with vendor supplied drivers

A CD-ROM drive

Connection
The system performance is directly related to the bandwidth available. We therefore recommend
an ASDL or equivalent connection. Minimum of 56kbps Internet connection or 16kbps CIR (Committed Information Rate) to Standard Bank when using a dedicated connection to ISP Ports
80 and 443 open for TCP outbound on Firewall and / or Proxy Server when used For optimum performance, please ensure that the HTTPS protocol is prioritized on your company's network.

 

How to upgrade your software

You can upgrade your software by following these simple steps:

Step 1
Check that your system meets the minimum requirements. Click on the System requirements tab to display the latest requirements.

Step 2
Check the Java requirements for any other applications you are running on your system to ensure there are no conflicts with the latest version. If you are uncertain, please contact your software vendor, service provider or the Business Online call centre.

Step 3
Download and install the latest Java software or install from the CD.

Step 4
Access Business Online.

 

Troubleshooting

Business Online now uses the latest version of Java. If you are experiencing technical difficulties and are using a version of Java older than Java 5 please upgrade your software.
